A friend phoned me at work yesterday afternoon, asked me to sit down before telling me there was a Yellow Warbler at the tree plantation of Þorbjörn, 40 minuntes from Reykjavik. Six of us arrived to search for it but the wind had picked up so much and the trees were moving around so much that conditions were abominable for looking for a small bird. However, at one point three birds flew out of a bush close to me, the first two were Redpolls, the third was bright yellow! I saw it in flight for about 2 seconds before it disappeared into the dense shrubbery. Despite extensive searching, with the wind ever increasing it was not located. The yellow bird I saw was POSSIBLY, even probably the Yellow Warbler but I can't tick it with a clear conscience. I might return tonight if the wind dies down. Hurricane Fabian might have brought something else with it by this evening.
As way of some compensation two Gyr Falcons were seen en route.

Good luck with relocating the Yellow Warbler, Edward. Mind you 2 Gyr Falcons aren't a bad consolation prize!
Hurricane Isobel is currently running in towards the Bahamas so there may be a chance next week of more Yanks , providing it follows the same track as Fabian.
