World Trip Reports

yellow-billed cuckoo

Seen Sunday morning at a local park. Life bird for me.
Not truly rare but not common.

Fantastic.
They are elusive, to say the least. I lived out in the country for years and every year I could hear the Yellow-billed throughout its season, but I probably have only seen it three times.
Good for you!

Just got my first YBCU, too, on June 1 -- in the yard, no less. While they're a common low desert and eastern US bird, they're rarely seen at my elevation or in the northern half of Arizona (where I live). I never did hear it, only saw it, and managed to get some ratty photos through a window for the bird-record-keeping folks, but still -- what a thrill to see that big yellow and black beak and that looooooonnnnng tail!
