My children,
Discussion of escapes and what to tick is the current in thing on BF; so come along and enter Father McKinney's confession box.
I'll start it with:
Red Breasted Goose at Martin Mere this winter.
I knew it wasn't wild (come on everyone did) but I still ticked at the time & prayed that nothing would ever be discovered about its true origin. I was mortified when it turned up at Knowsley Safari Park! It's now been taken off my list.
So come on my flock. Down on your knees. It's confessin' time.
Father Thomas Mckinney, C-of-BF.
It has to be the Pilling Ross's Goose, which I count for my Fylde list because everyone else does and no other reason. Ross's Geese live a charmed life in rarity reporting terms as far as I can see, even when they are found to sport captive colour rings they still get put out on the information services as though they are wild.
Otherwise Ruddy Shelduck. Didn't go for the RB Goose - just couldn't bring myself to do it.
Stephen.
Easy.. about an hour ago I admitted Green-winged Teal to my Cheshire list.... the bird in question was asleep with its back to me, so in all honesty I couldn't rule out a hybrid, leaving aside the dubiosness of the split in the first place.
I purged my list a few years back or I could have confessed at much greater length.
