World Trip Reports

Tulcea (Romania) first week of july

We visited the area on a hotel boat (Ibis tours) with a local guide.
We made trips around the area by bus and into the Danube delta with a smaller boat, which is the only way to visit the delta. The canals large enough for bigger boats contain no wildlife, but it is still very abundant in the smaller canals and on the (shallow) lakes.
We observed (seen or heard) a total of 162 different species.

These are a few of them

delta (regular sightings):
little bittern (ixobrychus minutus)
dalmation pelican (pelecanus crispus)
bearded reedling (panurus biarmicus)

inland (exceptional):
lesser spotted eagle (aquila pomarina)
short-toed eagle (circaetus gallicus)
stone curlew (burhinus oedicnemus)

We went with Ibis last May, Dan Petresceau (not the footballer) runs a fantastic company, we thought the floating hotel was brilliant, as for the birdlife, just amazing. Recommended.
