World Trip Reports

Trip Reports: Honduras, Cayman Islands, Guatemala

Hi Everyone;

I've recently added three trip reports to the "Birding the Americas" web site, for destinations that have relatively limited coverage. The reports are:

Cayman Islands, September 2007

Honduras, October 2007

Guatemala, February-March 2006

Safe travels, and good birding,

Hi Gavia
I'm sorry that you weren't able to get the Honduran Emerald. Unfortunately, the site mentioned in the old report by Braun was chopped down long ago. I saw them there in 2000, when the site was already badly degraded, but within about a year they were gone. Several years later Wheatly and Brewer published this site in their book, which must have caused confusion for many visitors. Basicly everything in Wheatly and Brewer for the region is taken directly from trip reports and they have virtually no first hand knowledge of the region. This is not the only site that has been completely destroyed in the last few years. My favourite area had disappeared on my last visit, leaving only one main protected area that I still know of in the valley. This is described on my website (link below), which gives another site for this species in the Olancho.

Tom

Hi Tom;

A quick note. I merely host the trip report on my web site, but wasn't the author of the report. Pity, because I'd love to travel to Honduras to go birding.

Cheers,

Gavia
