Three months in Mittelbrunn, Germany

Hi, all

New to the group, and new to birding. Actually, I'm not a birder so much as a bird photographer...and I make things tough for myself by using a Kodak digital camera without all those fancy telephoto lenses. Takes real skill to take good photos of birds with the camera I've got. (And by much practice I hope to acquire that skill.)

I am going to be living in Mittelbrunn, Germany from June 2-August 27 of this year, and hope to get some good photos of birds. I'll be making excursions to such places as Heidelburg and Neuschwanstein, but I'm pretty much confined to Mittelbrunn for the most part.

So far I'm finding the same problem here that I had in the States - darn birds move too fast! Or they perch on telephone wires in front of a rising or setting sun so it's impossible to get a good photo.

But, I shall persevere. My question is...anybody know any good sites around Mittelbrunn/Landstuhl/Kaiserslauten in which to take bird photos?

I hope to be able to share photos here soon...so far I've managed photos of some chickens, some peacocks, and some emu (or similar extremely large, flightless, bird) but since they are captive birds they don't really count.

I stopped in at a German book store in Landstuhl today, and picked up a couple of books in German, including Taschen Fuhrer Vogel...Alle Arten Mitteleuropas.

Of course I don't speak German at all, but with prodigious use of a dictionary I hope to have it all translated in the next 3 months!

Lots of drawings of birds...hopefully I'll see most of 'em in real life.
