World Trip Reports

The Kumaon Hills

Recently I have been to thee western Himalayan state of uttaranchal.

I saw quite a number of bird species there.

There was the common Hoopoe(not so common), Oriental White eye, Orienta l Magpie robin, Purple rumped Sunbird, some quails( exact species not identified), Red Whiskered bulbul and Greater racket tailed drongo.

I went to the nainital region first, a few lake birds( maybe coots, and some rails) and a Kingfisher, blue breasts a black head white underparts and a red beak.

We were at 2500 metres, and it was damn cold. Next was ranikhet, a quite part mountain and part grassland. I stayed unlucky there.

The last and most successful trip was to a national park called Jim Corbett national park. A large number of birding opportunities lay there, needed days of watching.

We departed back to New Delhi, capital of India.

Most of these birds I spotted were in the Jim Corbett national park. Also the nainital district and mussorie hill were good places.
