We\are going to be in Southern Texas in February and would like any information about birding in the River Frio area round Concan for this period. We haven't been to the US before but we have gathered a lot of info about the Rio Grande area so I think we are OK with this.
Hi Don,
I found your message in the Texas forum a few days ago and sent you a Private Message, but haven't heard back from you, so I checked where else you may have posted and found this thread. I've been to the Frio River area a couple of times, but at the end of April, for the Concan NatureQuest festival. There is a website for the area here: http://www.thcrr.com/
February would be too early for the spring migrants and most people go to that area to see the rare and endangered Golden-cheeked Warblers and Black-capped Vireos. There should be plenty to see, though, and the advantage of the winter is the cooler weather! I made a couple of webpages about our visit in 2005. There are photos and links to the 2 great State Parks in the area. Here's the URL: http://helensbirds.com/concannaturequest.html
We found there was a lot of good birding around Neal's Lodges, as they maintain several feeding stations. I don't have any experience of the Laredo area, I'm afraid.
Good luck with your planning.
