Starting a List

Hi All
I know you have read things like this a 1000 times, but please help me get started.
I am new to bird watching and have read lots of the threads about keeping lists.
What I need is some help on starting a list, what is to be recorded and more important how and what to do it with.
Are there programs we can buy or can some be downloded of the Web.
any help you can give me will be great

Mick

Hi Mick,

A good way to get started keeping lists is to write the names of the birds you see in a notebook. You might want to include the date and the location where the bird was seen. You can make you listing as detailed or as simple as you wish. It is "your list" and for your enjoyment!

It is as simple as that!

You can keep different lists if you wish. For example to can keep Garden List, County List, Country List, a list for a given year, etc. A lot of birders keep a Life List which is a list of all the birds you have seen in the wild. (Normally caged birds, birds in zoos and aviaries are not listed.)

Good Birding and Listing!

Hiya Mick,

As Larry said + add weather, habitat and behaviour to your notes.

See also the software by Jeff >>in this thread<< (I think you'll need Microsoft Access).

Andy.
