Hi all,
In spite of the lack of common migrants as yet,it appears that there has been an arrival of a well-known spring overshoot:Hoopoe!
There are two birds over here(Ladysbridge,Co.Cork and Duncormick,Co.Wexford),and another bird on St.Mary's,IOS.
If only ONE had been found, then a case could well be made for it having been around since the autumn, but three in the one day...?
Went down to see the Ladysbridge bird today:got excellent views of it feeding near the path of a farmhouse.Have seen 2 previously but never as well as this bird!
Also 1 Merlin at nearby Pilmore Strand and 1 Merlin and 1 Hen Harrier at Kilcolman Lake(in north Cork)

Good sighting Harry. We had one turn up here last Spring but I never saw it despite several visits. I think it even got ringed !
I'll have to keep an eye open for them as I'd love to see one over here rather than just in Spain. They are a remarkable looking bird aren't they ?
Hi Ian,
They are great birds, really stunning and full of character!Keep an eye out for one;next stop near you...?
Notice that you say that you've only seen them abroad?Oddly enough,I've only ever seen them over here! There WAS one while I was in Bulgaria(Sep.99),and I WOULD have looked at it,but I was watching my first and(so far)only Black Kite flying a few feet over a small road at the time giving exceptional views through my scope, and by the time that had gone so had the Hoopoe.
