I was headed home from the marsh (great birding there today) and surprise... this beauty was feeding in a rural area near my home. I turned my SUV around in the middle of the highway and eased back to the spoonbill. I finally got out and walked within 5 feet of the bird before it made a move away from me.
Nice shot pattianne. Bet some of our U.K. pals would kill for a close-up look like that!

Spoonbills are reportedly expanding their range northward through the Mississippi Valley, with reports in Kentucky and Missouri, and perhaps southern Illinois (I'm not sure about Illinois). So there's hope one will turn up sooner or later in Indiana.
