Short stayers!:-(

Hi all,
To me,a more annoying thing than dipping on a bird is not even having the chance to go for it!Imagine my horror, then,on finding out that a Water Pipit was in Co.Antrim on Sunday and a Glossy Ibis in Co.Kerry yesterday, but the point being that both were only seen by their respective finders, and didn't even stay around long enough to be seen by local birders!
While I acknowledge that I'd probably have to have left the pipit go(just that bit TOO far for anything that few others need),I'd DEFINITELY have been able to travel for the ibis.Just have to hope that it's pinned down again,or that other good birds will be found, preferably by me!;-)
Year-ticks a plenty last Sunday:Swallow,Garganey, and my first Redstart in Co.Cork!(had seen sp.in Wexford and heard one in Wicklow). Also had my third Hoopoe of the year(!).

Hi all,
Further to this topic, yet another bird seen last week didn't stay around:a Red-rumped Swallow near Kinsale was only seen for 2 minutes!Did manage to see the Woodchat Shrike at the Old Head on Sat and Sun(my 3rd),and also went to check out an odd Chiffchaff in east Cork, which had possibly been thought to be an Iberian:in my opinion it wasn't.
Got Swift for the year today while doing some survey work on Barn Owls, but failed to see any Red Grouse at a known site.

Get it out of your system man! Hop on a RyanAir flight to Exeter airport and take a taxi to Bowling Green Marsh. There I GUARANTEE you a Glossy Ibis! Rash, I know, but that's me all over. After you have sated yourself on our resident beauty we can have a Guinness.

Peter

P.S. you're paying!
