Took a break last week to the Canary Isalnd of Lanzarote. I didn't get a chance to look for Houbara etc. but did see some good birds. i was staying in Costa Teguise and we had some rain on the first day. On subsequent walks through the resort we found lots of Pied Flycatchers, a few Spotted Flycatchers and three Melodious Warblers. Two Tawny Pipits were among the Berthelot's Pipits on the Golf Course where we saw six Barbary Partridges.
A few Trumpeter finches were seen on open areas but only one Stone Curlew. We saw one swift sp. over the resort (Common I think) and Barn Swallow were passing through. A single juvenile Barbary Falcon was seen at the Famaria Cliffs.
Others seen included Canary Islands and Common Chiffchaffs, Spectacled Warbler, Spanish Sparrow, Kestrel, Yellow-Legged Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Sandwich Tern, Whimbrel, Turnstone and Common Sandpiper. Not a lot but an enjoyable trip nonetheless.

No Canary Islands Chiffchaffs were seen. The endemic Lanzarote race is extinct so all the Chiffchaffs seen were Common Chiffchaffs. Some were just smaller and greyer than others.
