Semi-P

Hi all,
Went to west Cork by bus/thumbing today, with the main objective being to look at waders(we are getting a lot of American waders here at the moment).
After only having a Knot at Rosscarbery(and no passerine migrants at Galley Head),I reached White's Marsh(near Clonakilty),where I saw a Spotted Redshank and a juv."stint".
I decided to check this,as there have been at least 6 Semi-P's in the country in recent days:it instantly looked good for one!
I must add here that I was slow to call it,as I was unaware of the level of variation within Little Stint, and it's much easier to ID a bird when you're expecting it to be there. In retrospect,it was a typical Semi-P,but I hadn't had good views of one since 1998.
Also thought that it was paramount that the bird should have well-defined "anchors" at the centre of the(upper?)coverts, but apparently this isn't always so.
The long-staying juv.Pec was also there.

Good result Harry.

Spud

PS. did you mean lower scapulars?

When I saw the Thread title,"Semi- P"I got excited and thought.."I've seen one of these"..
thinking of a Semipalmated Plover (seen in USA)

Have these got a nickname yet,or are they too scarce in GB/Eire.?
