We were at Valley View Mall in Roanoke, on Friday the 10th. I had just pulled under a tree (to stay in the shade) and we noticed a bird "attacking" a van across from us. It appeared to be after something inside, which we couldn't see. My wife and I are not expert at IDing many birds that aren't common around our feeders, but knew we had never seen this one before. She called it a scissortail before I noticed how long it was.
Anyway, we watched it for several minutes before I realized that I had the camera with us. I apologize for the poor resolution. It's a 1.3mp that I got when our grocery stopped cashing in S&H Green Stamps (really.) Right after taking these, the van owner returned and the bird retreated to the tree above us. I told him about the attack on his vehicle and he couldn't figure out what it was after. I saw the bird for a few minutes after the van left. It may have stayed in the tree, but I could no longer see it. I also looked a few minutes later when I returned from the store.
We went to the Sibley's Guide as soon as we got home and it was definitely a SF.

Wow, I didn't know that they came that far east. What a rare treat!
