We're off to Alentejo southwest and vicenta national park in 4 weeks time! I just wondered whether the Eagle Owls listed in wikipedia as being there are still likely to be around? I heard from a friend that there is now shooting there on thursdays and sundays! Any particularly good spots we should try to get too?

I don't know the area well, but they are very vocal at this time of the year any old quarry or natural cliff should give some results, but by the end of February they are less vocal. The hunting season is almost hover and besides Eagles Owls don't really care...
