Peru Trip

Here are a few snippits from my recent trip to peru. This was not a pure birding holiday, but its impossible not to see a lot of birds in Peru. I still have not got round to counting everything but I think I saw about 200 lifers (I have been to south america before but not peru). The first 4 photos show from left to right a bearded mountaineer, a Hoatzin, blue and yellow makaws and a lesser kiskadee. I've also put a photo of a King Vulture in the rare bird photos forum.

The final photo shows what happened when I was trying to photograph a hummingbird in dense jungle. I saw a large cat behind it! I thought at first it was a Jaguar but now I think it is an Ocelot. I realise that Ocelots are not strictly birds, but it just goes to show where birding can lead you. The photo is not very good because I panicked a bit when I realised it was there.

Wow MC!
It must have been a shocking moment when that big cat moved into view !!!
It sounds like a great trip and I would love to see the triplist when you have it ready. How many hummingbird species did you get ?
Great job!

Might have been a great trip!
Love Hoatzins, although I have never seen one (one of my target birds). And... man, how I would get scared if I saw one of these big cats. They are beautiful, but their reputation aren't as nice. Despite that, it must have been very nice to see it.
Look forward to seeing your triplist as well.

Best regards,
Joćo
