other rarities......



i figure id post a few birds ive seen that arent common to my area (eastern US)


me being a rather ameteur birder, ive never went in the field with a camera so i dont have much in the way of pictures =(

i used to live in florida and i saw my greatest number of rare species down there.

double striped thick knee on golf course in crystal river, florida.

tawny eagle (later found out that it had escaped from a falconer) soaring over the peace river, desoto county, florida.

greater flamingos, everglades florida.

dollarbird (most likely an escaped pet) perched on a telephone wire, st petersburg, florida

various parakeets feeding from a date palm, ft meyers, florida.

yellow wagtail, hopping around on stones in a creek, near marquette, michigan.


a single stonechat in a group of horned larks on sand dunes, warren dunes state park, lake michigan shoreline, berrien county, michigan.

What were you smoking when you got the Wagtail and Stonechat?

actually there have been a good number of sightings of wagtails in michigan in the past couple years
