World Trip Reports

Ok I'm not mad *Honest*

4 weeks ago while driving along a 40mph road in Kent UK I see 5 birds.
3 of these birds were sitting in tree's on the opposite side of the road and in front of me I see 2 birds fly and then land near the other 3.

Now I am not the best bird spotter in the world, but I have a general knowledge of UK birds and these I did not recognize as native UK species.

These birds were bigger than a raven and from the birds sitting in the tree's I could make out a large patch of red on their fronts and from the others the wings had very vivid blue....almost illuminated electric blue wings.

The 2 that flew across the road in front of me had longish tails and arched their wings right back as they crossed the road to join the other birds.

I also have seen one of these around 8 months before sitting on a fence near a farm and about 4 miles away from this latest sighting.

My mind tells me parrots as I have seen a few that live wild in Kent (Dumpton park) and just outside Ashford.

Thanks for any help on this.

Just to add for those that might be interested I can give the exact locations of these sightings if need be.

They do sound rather like some species of Macaw

Perhaps there is somewhere around the area that has some free-flying ones? I'm sure there used to be, or still is?, some in Cumbria.

Perhaps someody else can come up witha positive ID...or even some more ideas?

Thankyou for your reply Gill and the macaw was-ish a thought of mine as there has been a few species of parrot seen in Kent.

As I only visit this area in Kent once every 2 weeks for buisness reasons its hard to spend much time there searching around, although I am trying to get my father and me there on a weekend with his digital camera.
