Northeastern India Birding trip Report

Hi! friends,

Mohit Aggarwal, Vivek Tiwari & I made a visit to Namdapha Tiger Reserve,
Dibru-Saikhowa Wildlife Sanctuary and Kaziranga National Park in early March
this year. We arrived at Dibrugarh, on the 3rd of March and stayed overnight
at Miao before moving on to Namdapha, the eastern most Tiger Reserve of
India. We stayed in the park till 8th March. We spend two nights at Deban,
a night at Haldibari Campsite, two nights at Hornbill and made a sortie
towards Embeong. Even though we had intermittent light showers, our birding
went quite unhindered, except for the millions of leeches, which as we found
out only attacked Vivek. Our next stop was a very brief ( few hours) visit
at Dibru-saikowa Wildlife Sanctuary in Western Assam on the 9th of March
and finally to Kaziranga National Park between 10th and 13th March.

Cheers Sujan.

I went to Bharatpur in 1999 and there we met some well travelled Birders who had just come from Kaziranga - they said it was one of the best places they had ever been to. I also saw a TV series called "Land of the Tiger" presented by Valmik Thapar (probably spelt that wrong) and Kaziranga looked absolutely amazing. It's definitely one of my top 5 must visit places.

Is it an easy place to visit without a guide? I also heard that there is a huge entrance fee if you want to take a camera in to Kaziranga - is that true? If so, how much?

Thanks, Tom.

Thanks for the report, Sujan; I just looked at the list of birds you saw, itemised on your website. Amazing list and all in 10 days!
