Having just returned from Brazil,I thought I would share my experiences with you before I start forgetting things. This trip was more of a family holiday than a bird tour,I was with my wife and 2 daughters (9&6),we booked with First Choice and stayed at the Iberostar Bahia hotel near Priai do Forte,Bahia on an all-inclusive basis, and when you consider the £900 price tag for flight, accomodation, board and drink(and I did manage to consume large amounts of the latter),it is very reasonable. The hotel is large with extensive grounds,including-'restinga',kept gardens, beach front, small woodland and a golf course. The grounds are packed with various birds,Great Kisskadee's are everywhere,as are water tyrants,long-tailed wood nymph,Giuara cuckoo, cattle tyrant, black and turkey vultures and crested caracara to name just a few,on the golf course (access allowed after 4pm) southern lapwing, burrowing owl, smooth billed ani and bananaquit amoung others, from the beach in the evenings you get loggerhead, hawksbill and olive turtles in the surf, with magnificent frigate birds overhead and in the surrounding trees there were white toothed macaques. On a whale watching trip we saw 8 humpbacks, with 2 breaching...what a sight!! on another excursion we went into the Atlantic forest and saw 2 three-clawed sloths as well as numerous spiders and butterflies.
