As an alternative to having a stinking hangover, I thought I might try and see as many species as possible this New Year's day.
I just wondered whether other people were doing likewise and where they might go and hope to see.
My current draft plan involves north Norfolk, perhaps starting at Lynford Arbortetum for woodland types (on route from home), then Holkham (geese, shore passerines, seabirds, BoPs), then Titchwell (waders, seabirds) and may be Choseley or Thornham if time allows. 8 hours isn't particularly long.
I have no idea how many species I might expect, not done this before in Britain in mid winter.
Any others?
Loads of people will be doing it.
Norfolk and Kent are the easiest places to get a big New Year's Day List: 140 would be respectable. There are more species in some other counties like Yorkshire but you would waste too much time travelling.

140 strikes me as well impressive. Any thoughts on best sites in north Norfolk for this? I dont want to impede on competitive secrets of course!
I was figuring a good mix of habitats at the more well renowned birding sites. I'm a bit weak on some of the speciality birds though - e.g. where to go for a little owl on route.
