First I was in Yate and was camping in Gite Iya.
Between Gite Iya and Gite St Gabriel is a small village.
I saw differnt waders, Gulls, White-faced Heron, Night Heron ( Nycticorax caledonicus ), Pacific Heron, Sea Eagles ( it seems a pair is breeding there ), Notou, Whiteeyes, Red-throated Parrotfinch, Sacred Kingfisher and so on.
This village is a all time a good spot and also but camping places are good for birding ( Seabirds and also birds which life in the forest and in open landscapes ).
In this area are coral reef, small mangroves, big trees, bush and agriculture area.
But also Indian Mynah and Spotted Turtle Doves very common there ( both introduced ).
Next I went to Chute de la Madeleine.
It is not a great spot for birding, but excellent for endemic plants.
After this place followed Parc Riviere Bleue.
This is the best spot for Cagou.
But this year I saw only 1 in 4 days ( last year 8 on one day ).
Begin of November is the time for creating there nest.
So is not so good chance for watching Cagou.
But is excellent time for nice colours of Oxera palmentinervia with his orange flowers and Deplanchea speciosa.
Best regards
Dieter
