World Trip Reports

Kenya April 2006

Very interesting report Alf, as it covers the areas I'd like to visit if I go again (like you I've been to central and western Kenya before). Also interesting to hear that you had Somali Golden-breasted Bunting on the Magadi Road because so did we yet according to the range maps in both field guides it's a far bit out of range. Otherwise I thought the Magadi Road was one of the best, if not the best, birding sites I've ever been to. Masses of birds, miles of termite mounds, red earth, roadside giraffes, Masai villages and no other tourists at all. It's just unimaginably hot there. Chestnut-banded Plover is common at Lake Magadi by the way ;-)

Agreed Edward Magadi Road is outstanding.

According to those in the know the distribution maps in both guides are significantly out of date, having relied on information that was available at the time but which has been added to considerably since.

I thoroughly recommend the coastal regions when you next visit.
