Hello,
last June I've been with some friends of mine to Kenya. We rented a jeep and wandered around Naivasha (mainly inside a private farm, Marula estates, that was hosting us), with trips to the Aberdare Mountains, Nakuru NP, Hell's Gate NP.
I had already been there in the past and I came back home enthusiastic for the variety of birds and how tame they are. This time my foremost interest was taking pictures and the birds helped me
But let's come to the trip. We stayed there for 2 weeks. We should've found dry weather, but we found instead some rains that made the tracks muddy but kept the dust down. In the morning the climate was very cool (even cold sometimes) and a little bit foggy, but during day the temperature was pleasant, never above 30C.
We saw a total of 274 species (note that we travelled at last for 50 km from the lodge), the highlits have been:
- Hartlaub's Turaco (highlight for me, I was really looking farward to it since last time)
- Verreaux's Eagle (at Hell's Gate NP and in the Farm)
- Sharpe's Longclaw in Kinangop
- Long-tailed Widowbird ( an amazing display!)
- Harlequin Quail
- Cinnamon Bracken Warbler
- Grey Cuckoo-shrike
- Temminck's Courser
and of course tons of other birds, huge flocks of Pelicans, Martial and Crowned Eagle, Waxbills and Cordon-bleu and so on.
For a better idea of the trip, I hope you'll enjoy the pictures on my website, I'm probably better with the camera (hope so
) rather than with words.
