......and the bad news is, if it doesn't come back I'm, stuffed on getting past the rarities committee. The full sob story:
I was riding down the promenade with the kids - one on the back and one her own bike. I could hear this call coming from the beach - a tooweee. It was repeated loads of times and I couldn't see a bird..... then I did, quite close to me, a sleek looking summer plumaged Ringed plover-type. I was on a bike using bins, so not in a great position to see too much - it flew a hundred yards or so and joined another plover and a Dunlin.... I called a friend to see if he could clinch it with a scope. Unfortunatley both plovers got up and flew about a mile out to the recently exposed East Hoyle bank. One bird was smalller than the other and had a less obvious wing-bar. I could still hear it calling as it disappered from view...... Parus spp.
Hopefully it will be back on tomorrow's tide.
Sorry Jane,
Am I right in thinking you mean Semi-P Plover?
I don't understand the Parus bit.
Tom.
Unlucky Jane. There was a similar story of a birder in Scotland a few years ago hearing a Spotted Redshank calling repeatedly - except all he could see was this Ringed Plover. Hope it returns.
