Been on Tortola for about 3 weeks now but haven't been able to log on properly. I thought I'd share my local list building from the start 3 weeks ago. Not all the birds I’ve seen are listed as I’ve got no optics at all at the moment (until my freight arrives) and I don’t have a clue what half the birds here are so iding stuff is proving rather difficult.
31/10/06
First day on the island, get up and walk onto my balcony to see:
1) Green-throated carib (my first hummer!); and 2) lots of Bananaquits flitting about on the bananas in the garden
Later driving to town I tick 3) Cattle Egret

A drive around the islands coast gets me 4) Magnificient Frigate bird; and 5) Brown Pelican. I also decide that 6) Red Junglefowl is going on my list because there is clearly a huge population of feral and self-sustaining wild chickens
