Only recently back to birdwatching after many years. This morning at dawn I counted eighty eight Avocets on a small local reserve at Trimley, Nr Felixstowe in Suffolk. I know I`m out of touch and have plenty to learn and re-learn but that seemed a lot to me. Is that unusual elsewhere in the UK?
It is quite a common sight in the UK now in certain places to see big flocks of Avocets
When you think that for the past 2 years they have bred at Washington, Tyne & Wear [most notherly breeding in the UK] and that they also bred for the first time in 200 years in my area [Cleveland] -in fact 2 sucessful pairings.
It does seem that they are adapting well to the climate of the UK.
