Walking my dog alongside the Bure Valley Railway, Aylsham, just before dusk last evening, and not carrying binoculars (musn't do that), I saw what I thought was a large bird feeding at about 50 metres. It's wing movements were unusual though.
Only as I walked under it did I realize that it was a bat. At a guess I'd say with a wing span of 30-40 cm.
Checking options on the Internet I thing that it could have been a Greater Horseshoe or a Greater-mouse Eared bat. Any other suggestions.
Greater Horseshoe I think is more of a western species, and Greater Mouse-eared is very rare indeed.
Is there a reason that makes you think it wouldn't have been a Noctule?

Thanks David.
I'm not a bat man, which is why I asked for suggestions. Looking at http://www.norfolk-bat-group.org.uk I see that they don't list the Greater Horseshoe as a Norfolk Bat. But they do list the Noctule so you could be right.
