I am fairly new to more serious birding and was wondering how you more experienced people make your lists. I see the bird, try to identify it, and look it up in my guide if I cant. Then I write the species down in a small notebook, and other info about it. When i get home, if I do not have it on my all time list, I add it. Does this sound good? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Alex,
Sounds as good as any. Many of us have electronic versions of our lists and others use good old paper checklists. I record all my sightings in a database and then can see my ¨life list¨, or year list, State list, or Country list, etc. There have been several past threads on how folks keep their lists, what software they use (or what checklists) so you might want to look further back in the archives in this same forum for more info.
Good luck.
I don't keep lists, but I think that the answer to your question is that, ultimately, it is YOUR list and you can keep it any way you like.
