Goshawk in Walnut Creek, California

Goshawks like the country and wooded areas... I live in the suburbs which Goshawks usually avoid. But sure enough, one morning I looked out and there was a goshawk sitting in the tree in my front yard staring down at my two main squirrel friends.

I went outside, approached the scene quietly, and told the Goshawk that all the critters in my yard were involved in helping me learn the lessons in life that I needed to learn, and were off limits for eating. If he wanted to stay, he'd have to eat animals from other yards. He said, "Kek, kek, kek!" then spread his big wings and flew away. He came back three times within a week, then I haven't seen him again yet since, but I feel he will return from time to time.

The native american indians teach that each species of animal has some lessons they can teach us if we are open to them. While I am not native american indian, I have found that to be very true and I honor and respect all the birds and squirrels and crickets for the lessons they have to offer me on my path on life.

Warmly,
Crowquette (Carol)

Nice post Carol and equally nice sentiments. So lucky to have such a beautiful raptor close to home.

Warmest regards.

Mick.

Thanks, Mick! I named the Goshawk Gunther... lately I can hear his "Kek, kek!" showing he is nearby, but he hasn't come back into my yard cuz he knows the animals there are my friends and off limits... I told him so last time I saw him.

My crows/ravens Roman and Roshanda are equally beautiful and both are very loving and sweet.... they have been known to follow me long distances just to let me know they are with me when I am having a down-energy type day.

Hugs,
Crowquette (Carol)
