from their website

Dear Visitors to the website

This is to inform you of the sad news that Poas Volcano Lodge was damaged on 8th January by the earthquake whose epicenter, was very close to us. Fortunately the strength of the house and our security standards ensured that our staff, who were the only people there at the time, were able to evacuate safely. It is therefore, with regret that we announce that we will not be taking reservations for the rest of January, February and March, due to the remodelings and necessary safety inspections required. For those who had intended to stay with us during that time, so sorry we can not take your reservations but your safety and comfort is our priority. We intend to reopen with a reduced number of bedrooms on April 1st, and with a lower price range, which we will announce on the website as we sort ourselves out. We hope our many friends who have enjoyed our hospitality will continue to recommend us to their families and friends, as we fully intend to return some day to what we were. Please contact us if you have any queries.

All best wishes

Thanks D,

That's good to know.
I guess I should have looked again at their website!

Edit: Checked my emails today. This from Michael:

Hi Richard

We are still here - just. The main house was very severely damaged and much
of it will have to be demolished and re created. We were very lucky in that
noone was hurt in the Lodge but all were very traumatised. Sorry not to have
replied but it has been mayhem here.

The village was also very badly hit as were the Waterfall Gardens. Below the
Gardens there was substantial loss of life, and the infrastructure of the
area wrecked. But we will be back, and hope to see you back to show you how
we survived. The fireplace and wall behind it will be taken down as it is
leaning outwards. It was a very violent event.

Hope all well in Manchester.

all best wishes to you both and many thanks for thinking of us. Much
apperciated.

Michael
