Managed my first of the winter of each today. A Glaucous Gull on Strathy beach in Sutherland, I didnt even notice it myself as I was eggcase hunting with my son. It was pointed out to me by my birdwatching nightclass tutor, who I had met on the beach. Its a shame I didnt have the scope and camera with me.
When I got home I was looking out the window with my scope and spotted the Iceland Gull. Went out into the garden to try and get a photo but it was too far away so I got a terrible photo instead. It then flew to the Harbour. Last year the Iceland Gull numbers were into double figures, so hopefull there will be some better photo opportunities in the next few weeks. Last year I got some good shots.
The terrible photos.
I saw 4 Icelands today, they are arriving at last.
Still not the pics I am hoping for as I couldnt get access to the pier they were on but hopefully this week.
White winged gulls are one of my fav gulls,I read on another forum that Common Skate egg cases were found up in your area and that they were the first to be found in the UK ,did you find any ?they were some size to look at in the photos.I take it the pics were taken at Scabster.
