During last week I received news of the presence of a rare species for our area. Greg Nye (a BirdForum member) had filmed a Gerygone (a type of warbler found only in the Australasian/Asian Region) and uploaded stills on our website Australasian Bird Image Database
He believed it was a Fairy Gerygone Gerygone palpebrosa and this was confirmed by a local birder Trevor Ford. Bribie Island is about 70km north of Brisbane.
In most literature the southernmost limit of it's range is reported to be Rockhampton near the Tropic of Capricorn but I have recorded them at a known location in Bundaberg about 300kms north of Brisbane.
I've uploaded pics of the bird on the BirdForum Asian/Australian Gallery and on the ABID.
