I know that people do "Big Years" in North America (700+ species?) and here in the UK (400+?), but has anyone ever tried to do a Europewide Big Year. If they have, how many species could they potentially see?

Anything over 400 would be respectable, and 500 would be amazing.

I've just found the Surfbirds website, and the top yearlister for Europe seems to be a Frenchman who has seen 294 birds up to 15th May. Seven other people are on the list as well - including you, Steve, in 3rd place (I imagine it's the same Steve Lister).
