3 of us took on the gales of Essex yesterday (7.12.11), racking up 82 species including several lifers for fellow birders Gary and Dave. Visits to Abberton, Old Hall Marsh and Chigborough lakes. Full report at:

Sounds like an excellent day, in particular the Red-breasted Goose. I don't think the strange goose is a hybrid but an escaped Swan Goose
Thanks for the tip on swan goose. Thought I had seen a picture of one somewhere before. Probably on the bird id thread.
