I am about to set off for Ecuador tonight. My flight is actually early tomorrow morning, but as I live on the Isle of Wight and my journey involves a ferry ride over to Portsmouth I am leaving one hour from now, getting a taxi to Heathrow from Portsmouth Gunwharf car ferry terminal and am in for a pretty boring night until check in at 0500. I just hope there's a coffee shop open all night.
I have to admit, that as I type, I'm feeling a mixture of anticipation and apprehension. Anticipation as I love travel, foreign birding, new countries and new experiences, apprehension as I know I'm in for a long, boring night, you never know what travel will chuck at you (all part of the fun, I guess), it is blowing (almost) a gale, p**sing with rain and any sensible mortal would be settling down in front of the telly for the evening! However, as I am a birder and not an ordinary *sensible* mortal, I'm going out and in a couple of days will be birding in one of the most bird rich countries on Earth.
I'll be back two weeks from today and hopefully I'll be posting all about my birding experiences in a new (for me) continent.
Cheerio for now
