Daurian Shrike in the Netherlands

Yesterday afternoon (24-9-2003) an immature Daurian Shrike (Lanius isabellinus) was fount at the Isle of Texel, the Netherlands. Today the bird was still present.

I have added two video stills to the gallery:

Michael,

speculigerus as a name became redundant several years ago when the nomenclature of this complex was rearranged due to a wrongly labelled type specimen. Now we have:

phoenicuroides = Turkestan Shrike (mainly Kazakstan)

isabellinus (formerly speculigerus) = Daurian Shrike (mainly Mongolia)

arenarius (formerly isabellinus) = Chinese Shrike (south and west of isabellinus)

The extensive buff wash on the underparts, including ear coverts, and relatively colourless crown indicates isabellinus in this case.
