This may sound like a stupid question, but for over a year, my sister had a male northern cardinal attacking the windows of their house. My guess is he saw his reflection? This cardinal was relentless and drove them insane. Now, I have a female northern cardinal attacking the windows and mirrors on my cars. What is the deal? I have never seen or heard of this type of behavior. How can we stop it? We've tried rubber snakes, the spike things on the windowsills, etc. Help!
Just typical birdie territorial behavior, especially with the onset of breeding season. About the only thing you can do is put decals or something on your windows to make their surfaces less reflective. In any case, the birds will eventually stop on their own.

This is typical? Really? I have never seen such a thing. I guess if it were blue jays I wouldn't be so surprised. Do all species exhibit this type of behavior?
