World Trip Reports

Coast to Coast. And the birds between!

HELLO!! I am finally back to my own homestate of New York! Having been on the road since June 26 and only just returning on August 13, this trip was one of my longest yet!! It was also incredible!! Unfortunately, this trip made my BIGGEST nemesis yet. Histrionicus histrionicus. The Harlequin Duck. It should be an easy bird, ‘specially since I live on the coast!! Nope. I scanned countless mountain streams, rapids, and Pacific coastal waters on far too many occasions to be allowed to come up empty handed. Very annoying!! I never saw one, and thus a nemesis is born.
Other things of note include mammals. We saw a great many bison in Yellowstone (as always), a lot of moose and elk, a wolf in Jasper and a pack in Yellowstone (my first wolves!), several Humpbacks on a whale-watching tour off Vancouver, and my first ever BULL MOOSE!! He was a huge animal, at least 8 foot tall, and he crossed the road right in front of us in Wyoming. We saw several grizzlies in Yellowstone, including a mother and cub who were eating a dead bison, at least until an enormous grizzly boar charged down the hill and scared them off. He stood up on his hind legs and just started ripping into the carcass. Also had many good looks and pictures of one of my favorite birds, the Bald Eagle.

Sounds like an awesome trip OT. Congrats on all the lifahs! I've got to admit I'm just a wee bit jealous...

You and your 534 birds can cry yourself to sleep then.
Thanks, and I'm just joking of course.
