Well I went to Mount Tolmie today and part way up I got a call telling me there was a Clay coloured Sparrow at Swan Lake. I rook a near by bus and sure enough after 20 minutes of waiting for it, it sung!! After another 10 minutes it finally came out. This is the first one I've ever seen and it's been seen less than 8 times on Van. Isl. So it was a real special treat for my year list and life list.
Congrat CanadaGgurl. The Clay-colored Sparrows have really been showing up in some out of the way places. I've had one here each winter for the last few years as well. It's neat isn't it?
Yeah it's awesome. The local ckecklist 7 years ago has only 1 record for the area but in the last few years there have been about 4-5 sightings of them in our area.
