Presume because there are more well trodden paths in the rest of Goa.
If you haven't been to Goa you don't know what you are missing!.
Birdwatching is easy and the scenery,beaches and people at the south end of South Goa are wonderful.
First timer but loved the birdwatching.Avoid April.Too humid!
Saw 45 lifers and took Lifelist to 534.
Stayed at the Dona Sylvia Hotel almost a bird reserve in itself!
I enjoy holidays to relax and do some local birding.
This place fitted the bill to a tee.
It is buzzing with birds around the gardens. The lawns are a virtual wetland site it is so well watered.Birds included Purple Sunbird,Tailorbird,Red Vented Bulbul,White Rumped Munia,Red Whiskered Bulbul,House Crow.House Sparrow,Jungle Minah,Ashy Prinia,Cattle Egret,Indian Pond Heron,White Throated Kingfisher,Oriental Magpie Robin.
Yellow wattled Lapwing,Red Wattled Lapwing,White Breasted Waterhen,Barn Swallow,Wire Tailed Swallow,House Swift,Brahimy Kite,Green Bee-eater,Koel,
White Browed Wagtail,Black Rumped Flameback
Do not miss the Lonely Place Track just north of the hotel.
White Throated Kingfisher,Oriental Magpie Robin,Yellow Wattled Lapwing,Red Wattled Lapwing,White Breasted Waterhen,Barn Swallow,Wire Tailed Swallow,House Swift
Red Whiskered Bulbul,House Crow,House Sparrow,Jungle Minah,Ashy Prinia,White bellied Sea Eagle,Brahimy Kite,Black Kite,Coucal,Koel,Indian Peafowl,Jungle Babbler,Rufous Fronted Babbler,Orange Headed Thrush,Common Iora,Brown Headed Gull[from Beach],Loten's Sunbird,Brown Headed Barbet,Asian Brown Flycatcher,Common Woodshrike,Black rumped Flameback,White Browed Fantail,Eurasian Golden Oriole,Blyths Reed Warbler, Thick Billed Warbler,White Browed Warbler,Pied Bushchat.
Spent many a happy hour at Cavellosim Rice fields at northern edge of village.
Star bird was Black Heron.Seen twice in small reedy pool surronded by shrubs and trees.
Also many Brahimy Kites,
12 Redshank,Greenshank,Woodsandpiper,Intermediate Egret,Little Egret,Cattle Egret,Indian Pond Heron,Indian Cormorant,Yellow Wattled Lapwing,Red Wattled Lapwing,Pied Bushchat.Paddyfield Pippet,Common Sandpiper,Common Kingfisher,White Throated Kingfisher,Wire Tailed Swallow.
Took a trip to Chanderath Hill.Koel,Coucal,Black Drongo,White Bellied Drongo,Chestnut Tailed Starling,Black Kite,Spotted Dove,Red Vented Bulbul,Brown Shrike.
Whistling Ducks at Velim Lake.
We were going to book an holiday in Cavelossim and I had wondered what the birding would be like. In the end we decided to go elsewhere as we have been to Goa many times before but I will definitely add here to the list when we are looking for places to stay next time we go.You don't mention any seabirds yet I thought the river estuary was near here ?
