Cardinal with a black head

I have a male cardinal frequenting my backyard, that has a blackhead. It appears that there are no feathers on his head at all. I've never seen him before this year, but am concerned that he won't survive the winter without these feathers. He seems to be doing OK with the ladies because theres usually a female close by. I haven't taken a pic, since I didn't know there was a forum like this for me to ask and show. Anyone have any input??

Very common. Mites problem on feathers.

That is interesting...I have also noticed a male cardinal with a black head. I have never seen this before....EVER. Is there anything that can help the birds? I am wondering if there is more info on this. This bird I keep seeing looks healthy, just the black head. very odd
