Could not resist the opportunity to catch this v rare visitor to Cambridgeshire as its only a few miles from my home. It was discovered on Saturday by John Oates and was reported as being present this morning by Dick Newell who also digiscoped it and has published the pictures at the following URL

On the way to the viewing point I was told that it was still there but rather distant, was delighted to find it had moved much closer by the time I got there at 4:30. It was giving great
views in the evening sunlight, including displays (Pity it only had a Little Ringed Plover to see this and not another of its kind) and a short flight where it came in even closer. A great little bird hopefully it will stay around for a while longer.
Having had a good lifer the week-end before the GGBC (Ring Ouzel), this much rearer one turns up the week after! Do these birds have no sense of timing?
Paul
Thanks Paul
Just had a look at the pictures - great stuff! You are very lucky to see this by the sound of it. I don't blame you for making the effort; it was well worth it.

I am reliably informed that its only been recorded in the county on 5 previous occasions 1982, 1975, 1962, 1953 (all in the north of the county) and the last time one turned up in my part of the county was 1826 (I assume this one was only recorded after being shot as that was the way they did it then)
