as usual with a tourist / non birding holiday i didnt get as much time watching as i would have liked, but -
budapest
as with switzerland last year, the jays seemed much less shy and were fairly easy to watch, gathering frantically in the trees. maybe its the time of year that helps.
berlin
good to see a city at one with a healthy population of hoodie crows. somewhat unexpected but very welcome, coming from the northern britain margin of their terrain. the Tiergarten is a must. not only is it beautiful but has thriving birdlife. mallards and coots in a feeding frenzy couldnt hide two mandarin ducks. great and blue tits at a series of feeders couldnt hide a very healthy population of nuthatches, there and throughout. nice to see and easy to watch. a tree creeper too - which type there ?

Hello Andy,
mostly common in the town is Short-toed Treeceeper.
But is not sure, You have to define it on place or take some pictures.
In Berlin I preferred protected areas nearby e.g. Nuthe Nieplitz, which is only 35 km from the city. But in every case car or public transport + bicycle is needed.
Best regards
Dieter
