Lots of birds visit Britain every year but how many actual British breeding birds are on your lists?
I haven't tallied my own up yet but would be interested to know if anyone has seen over 200 or more British breeding birds. Also what is the latest count on birds that breed in Britain. May be an interesting year list to go for.
do you mean residents? or do you include summer visitors too like hirundines? And I suppose you list wouldn't include birds like redwing or whooper swan? What about birds with only a few breeding pairs such as purple sandpiper that are a lot more common in the winter? and do breeding vagrants such as the black-winged stilts at Martin Mere this year count?
I am sorry if it sounds confusing but what I mean is any bird that breeds in Britain on a regular basis, including summer visitors etc. What I don't mean is that you actually have to see the bird when it is breeding, or find it's nest, it could be any time of the year. I hope this clears it up.
