Birding in the Canadian Maritimes

My husband and I went to the Maritimes for two weeks for our anniversary in September, and, while the Puffins had already left (much to my disappointment), I did see a lot of other birds I'd never seen before.

Sidney Mines/Ingonish area:
Hooded Merganser
Semi Palmated Plover
Greater Black Backed Gull
and some sort of Grouse-looking bird running along the ground in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park

In St. John NB:
Bluegrey Gnatcatcher near the "Flower Pots"

In the John Irving Nature Park:
Greater Yellowlegs

And of course, I saw many familiar birds as well.

We missed the Puffins and didn't see any Seals or Moose (!), but we did see a Fin Whale just off the coast of Ingonish.

I had so much fun, and I'm a Canadian at heart, so this was a dream vacation! My husband, who is no birder himself, made every possible attempt to accomodate my love of birds! He made up a wonderful itinerary which included plenty of trail walking and known birding areas.
