birding in Ethiopia is incredible

I am trying to spread the word that birding is great in the African country of Ethiopia.
I have just returned from a 3 week independent driving tour of this historic country not really expecting to see that many new birds. But I did see many old African friends (hornbills, sacred ibis, secretary bird, weavers) as well as many new species (warblers, kingfishers, lambeguier, auger eagle). Both the historic north as well as the more tropical south parts of the country are rich for birders.
We arranged a car and driver with Amazing Ethiopia Tours, www.amazingethiopia.com , and had a guide who carried the out-of-print Collins guide to African birds. Our driver quickly caught on that raised voices meant a possible sighting and he began to spot birds AS HE DROVE and slowed the SUV to show us. What luck! Our guide was named Abeta and our driver was Aman. Ask for them when you talk to the owner, Simeneh. I know you will enjoy birding in this extraordinary ancient country. Happy birding, Ann

I would love to go to Ethiopia, as well as to go birding there. (I've spent some time in Southern and East Africa, but never quite that far north). It's definitely on my top 10 "most wanted countries" list - I just need to find a moment when I've got the time and the money...
