about a year ago i was bike riding on a paved path in a state park on long island. it is a wooded area and there are some fresh water marshes by the trail. all of a sudden this large bird swooped down from a tree and went right across the path, and i barely got a glimpse of it because it kind of startled me. the bird was either purple or blueish in color with kind of "showy" feathers if i remember correctly. it was maybe about the size of an osprey, but not a hawk of any kind just using that as a size comparison. sometimes i think of this and feel like i dreamed it haha. well if anyone has any clue or idea of what i saw please post them, it's been driving me mad for quite some time.
Well, Great Blue Heron is quite large but puts on a nice flight show.
Other alternative would be Little Blue Heron?

i was thinking the great blue because the blue on the feathers really really fits what i remember seeing, but would it go into a tree? i thought they're only right by the water's edge. it was early in the morning, may it's possible it could of been sleeping?
