Just back from a second visit to Watamu Bay (pic 1) in Kenya
.
It is a great location for relaxing & there are some birds around the hotel too.
Having a non birding girlfriend I would be grateful for any suggestions for future "beach & birding" holidays.
Were looking for coastal hotels that have lots of wildlife in the grounds or that are near to nature reserves or parks where I could have a day or two's birding.
A lot of trip reports are full on, mad dashes to see as many species as possible. Whilst these are great I also like the less hectic, relax & enjoy it approach.
We have previously been to the Senegambia Hotel in the Gambia & Baga in Goa and would recommend these to others and are looking for something along the same line.
Anyway, here's a list of birds seen in the hotel and the bay during a 2 week stay.

For more serious birding, Mida creek and Arabuko Sokoke forest are about 5km away & trips can be arranged to these sites quite easily.
A variety of safari's are also available to suit all budgets.
All my holidays are beach and birding.
Plenty of recommendations:
A couple in Northern Europe:
Falsterbo, Sweden. Good beaches & swimming. Non-birder friendly and I've never been disappointed there.
Skagen, Denmark
Perhaps not as well known for its summer birding I have still enjoyed the birding there.
Otherwise
Mallorca (S'albufera)
Crete
Lanzarote
Details of bird and beach trip reports to be found here.
Hi Mark
I have been on a few birding/beachh holidays with my non-birding wife. I've often thought of trying to persuade her to visit coastal Kenya (I've been to central and western Kenya without her). Sounds good.
My top recommendation for a beach and birding trip would be Queensland, either the Sunshine Coast around Noosa, or Far North Queensland, around Port Douglas, although virtually anywhere in between (about 2,000 km of coast) would do too. Anywhere north or south of Cairns would make a great base (Cairns itself is a bit of a dump) and the combination of magnificent beaches and superb birding (Atherton Tablelands, Daintree) in the hinterland makes for a brilliant holiday.
